IL FORTE SANGALLO

Il Forte Sangallo di Nettuno è una delle più significative architetture militari del Rinascimento laziale. Affacciato direttamente sul Tirreno, domina il litorale con la sua struttura imponente, silenziosa testimone di secoli di storia, guerre, e cultura. Il Forte Sangallo fu costruito tra il 1501 e il 1503 da Antonio da Sangallo, dal quale prende il nome il maniero, su progetto di Giuliano Giamberti, per volere di Cesare Borgia, detto il Valentino. La fortezza difendeva Nettuno, all'epoca considerata "granaio del Lazio", dagli attacchi provenienti dal mare. Si collocava in un ben articolato sistema difensivo, che univa le torri litoranee, dalla rocca di Ostia a Tor San Lorenzo, Torre d'Anzio fino a Torre Astura.

Le Fort Sangallo de Nettuno (photo) est l'un des édifices militaires les plus remarquables de la Renaissance dans le Latium. Donnant directement sur la mer Tyrrhénienne, il domine le littoral de par son imposante structure, témoin silencieux de siècles d'histoire, de guerres et de culture.

Le Fort Sangallo fut construit entre 1501 et 1503 par Antonio da Sangallo, qui a donné son nom au manoir, sur un projet de Giuliano Giamberti, à la demande de César Borgia, dit le Valentin. La forteresse défendait Nettuno, considérée à l'époque comme le « grenier du Latium », contre les attaques venant de la mer. Elle s'inscrivait dans un système défensif bien articulé, qui reliait les tours côtières, de la forteresse d'Ostie à Tor San Lorenzo, en passant par Torre d'Anzio jusqu'à Torre Astura.

FORTE SANGALLO

The Sangallo Fortress in Nettuno (photo) is one of the most significant examples of Renaissance military architecture in the Lazio region. Overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, it dominates the coastline with its imposing structure, a silent witness to centuries of history, wars, and culture.

Forte Sangallo was built between 1501 and 1503 by Antonio da Sangallo—after whom the fortress is named—based on a design by Giuliano Giamberti, at the behest of Cesare Borgia, known as “il Valentino.” The fortress defended Nettuno, considered at the time the “breadbasket of Lazio,” from attacks coming from the sea. It was part of a well-organized defensive system that linked the coastal towers, from the fortress of Ostia to Tor San Lorenzo, Torre d’Anzio, and Torre Astura.
